Teaching Kids to Live Thoughtfully
Mar 17th, 2010 by April
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Today is the day where many of us, Irish or not, wear green, and consequently, a great day to post about teaching our kids how to live ‘green.’
I have been reading “Grow Your Own Tree Hugger: 101 Activities to Teach Your Child How to Live Green” by Wendy Rosenoff, and it got me thinking about how impressionable children are and how crucial it is to teach them important concepts from a young age. How to take good care of our planet and ourselves seems like one of these important concepts.
So aside from a book like Rosenoff’s which gives advice to parents, which children’s books send the right message to today’s youth?
- What Can You Do With An Old Red Shoe? A Green Activity Book About Reuse
- The Polar Bears’ Home: A Story About Global Warming
- Michael Recycle
- I Can Save the Earth!: One Little Monster Learns to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
- The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle: A Story About Recycling
- The Adventures of an Aluminum Can: A Story About Recycling
- Dora Celebrates Earth Day!
And if you’re looking for a way to get these and other books without consuming extra resources or spending too much money, try a recycling or swap service like BookMooch, PaperBackSwap or SwapTree.com.
