Design Discovery

An article in the New York Times about the highs and lows of buying for home furnishing stores is accompagnied by a slide show of some of the items that have been selling like hot cakes or gathering dust. It’s not so much an interesting slideshow in terms of consumer spending habits, but rather a collection of at times beautiful objects. I also discovered some designers whose work I love:
John Robshaw Textiles: I couldn’t find anything on the site I didn’t like. The choice of fabrics is stunning and all of them are printed in his workshop in India.

Zak Designs immediately reminded me of my kid’s stackable toys and I thought it was odd that such child-like designs made it to the NYT article. Of course, then I went to the website and realized that it was designed for children. Zak Designs specifically makes children’s dinnerware.

And then there is this little guy. It’s not clear who made it but apparently people collect sleeping pigs. You can find more of them at auto, a home furnishing store in New York that has a range of odd and interesting items.
