Orchids as Old Dinosaurs

Researchers have discovered a bee trapped in amber that suggests orchids sprung to life between 76 and 84 million years ago. Orchids are one of the world’s most diverse plant groups, with over 25,000 species and a plethora of hybrids.
Historically, orchids represented wealth, beauty and love. The Aztecs were thought to have used the orchid to give them power and strength, while in Chinese culture orchids are believed to be able to improve weak lungs.
The flower now stands for gracefulness and uniqueness even though it has become one of the most common house plants. This is most likely because of the flower’s longevity and beauty. I think it’s amazing that this plant, which is now a symbol of intricate delicacy and inimitable form, was flowering when dinosaurs walked the earth.
